Neh: Month 1

I’m not much of a writer but I figured I should contribute to the blog. You all hear so much of Bre’s side from the TikToks and IG posts and YouTube videos that it might be easy to forget that there’s two of us. So I’ll use this opportunity to reflect and give you a little rundown on what my experience has been from before the proposal up until this point.

I'll start at about six months ago before I proposed in January. My entire family - my Mom, Dad, Stepdad, siblings, and one of my best friends- went out to California for both families to officially meet each other. At the end of that trip my parents suggested that I propose in the summer because it would be a complete curveball that Bre wouldn't see coming. Honestly that wasn’t when I had in mind to propose so I gave them some pushback but I told them that I would make a decision after I spoke to her dad about it. So a few weeks later I called to her dad to get his thoughts on the idea halfway hoping he’d say he thinks I should wait. But as I had expected he was fully on board with the idea and from that point forward it was a go. Funny enough a month later during one of Bre’s trips to visit me, one of my uncles almost ruined the surprised! So to cover it up we told Bre that we were throwing a surprise graduation dinner for her little brother and that we needed her to keep it a secret.

The set up for the proposal really wasn’t too difficult. My family had planned a two week trip out of the country to visit Israel, Egypt, and Dubai. Bre and I’s first year anniversary fell in the middle of my families trip so I promised to Bre that I would make it up to her. I told her I had scheduled an anniversary shoot for the two of us when she came to visit me, knowing the real surprise would be the proposal. While out in Dubai my family and I went ring shopping and we found the ring that screamed "Bre."

Once we touched down back into the states it was go time. My friends and I found a way to get her makeup done for our “photoshoot,” all the invitations to the proposal were sent out, and everyone understood what their roles were. Huge shoutout and thank you to my mom, SNJ Luxury Events, and our family friend, Lalu Events, for making the venue look like something out of a fairy tale. The day of the proposal came around and everything went smoothly outside of the fact that we were about 30 minutes behind schedule but it was a successful surprise and Bre absolutely loved it.

After she said “yes,” it was a mixed bag of emotions for me. Sure, I was thrilled, but it was also like this huge sigh of relief. Months of planning, secrecy, and scheming had paid off, and seeing her face light up? That was worth every second of it.

As for the wedding planning, we've pretty much knocked most of it out. We got our venue and we got our dream team of vendors. Surprisingly, the first month of engagement has been pretty drama-free. No major curveballs, just decisions and more decisions. As we gear up for the big day, I'm feeling good about what lies ahead. We're going all out with a fall-themed wedding, embracing the coziness and beauty of the season.

Not that I’m one to give out teachable moments and put people on but here's my two cents for anyone who cares to hear them. Choose wisely – the woman you marry is the woman your planning on being with forever. And keep your circle tight. Positive vibes and good energy matter, especially during this ride of wedding planning. And lastly, remember to enjoy every moment. This journey’s all about love, and making memories.

So there’s the first month of my engagement experience. I’m not sure when I’ll be doing another one of these but be on the lookout for it I guess. Or don’t. It’s your life, I’m just living in it.
