Neh: Month 2
Welcome back to my POV of our wedding journey! Time is flying by, and each day brings us closer to the day we say, "I do." In our first month of engagement, we dove headfirst into the deep end of wedding planning. We checked off some significant milestones, and I'm here to keep you all updated about where we are at this point in our journey. If you missed our first blog post, you can catch up here.
Up until this point the most exciting, at least for me, was deciding who my groomsmen and best men are. It's a large group, but the energy is second to none, and I'm beyond excited to go on this journey with those guys by my side. Who the groomsmen COULD have been was never in question. I have a good amount of friends and family that I want to celebrate this chapter of my life with. The issue, though, is that I can't have everyone be a groomsman. So to narrow down the list, I had to decide who I absolutely couldn't do this without. Those were my little brother, my uncles who are like the big brothers I never had being the oldest child, my two lifelong best friends, and another best friend of mine. After I decided on those guys, I had to fill the list with guys who played a part in my relationship with Bre. As for my best men, I needed them to be guys who had an impact on my relationship, have a relationship with Bre and I needed to be able to trust them to control the energy around me through the engagement and wedding process. As a couple, though, I think getting our vendors was the most exciting decision. The vendors we wanted are all in such high demand that there was a chance they wouldn't be available, so the rush of inquiring, then the satisfaction of booking was such a fun experience. Being a photographer myself, I had high standards for our photographer and videographer. Bre found someone who not only met those standards but exceeded them. From the consultation call, we clicked, and I love their work, so I'm super excited.
Not much has changed about my perspective or my experience honestly. I've remained pretty level-headed, especially since we knocked so much out of the way in month one. The biggest shift for me has just been in the role that I play. I've shifted from a decision-maker to more of an emotional support and relationship management role. At times, the stresses get to Bre, and it's my job to bring her back down and reassure her that everything is under control. While there weren't significant challenges, there was a minor obstacle we encountered this month. It revolved around some unsolicited advice we received. Honestly, the intentions are usually pure. No one is going out of their way to give you advice because they're judging you. So hear them out; they may not know the full scope of your situation, so that's why they're speaking from the perspective that they are. If you don't want to fill them in, then don't, but just remember, for the most part, they're offering advice because they are looking out for you.
Balancing wedding planning with our daily routines and responsibilities hasn't been too challenging this past month, mainly because we've tackled most of the major tasks in month one. However, we've learned to be flexible and not let wedding planning consume every moment of our lives.
The next big thing I'm looking forward to is our engagement photoshoot. As a photographer, I love every chance I get to step in front of the camera with Bre. Besides the engagement photoshoot, we're excited about finalizing the details of our ceremony and reception. So, that's a wrap for my month two update. Check back in four weeks for month three!
